Cleaning up after Occupy Wall Street protest postponed

Posted on October 18th, 2011 No Comments

The owners of Zuccotti Park, located about a block from Wall Street in Lower Manhattan and where around 3,000 people have camped-out and protested since September 17 for the Occupy Wall Street demonstration, recently agreed to delay clean-up of the park.

The park is owned by Brookfield Office Properties Inc. and is open 24-hours a day, every day of the year.  Police warned demonstrators at the park that they could face arrest if they did not remove their belongings from the park before event clean-up by Brookfield.

However, Brookfield decided to alter their clean-up plans to protect the rights of the demonstrators. ¬†“Brookfield believes they can work out an arrangement with the protesters that will ensure the park remains clean, safe, available for public use and that the situation is respectful of residents and businesses downtown,” said police.
